Doce Taqueria – Best Tacos in the Burg!

When it comes to tacos… Doce Taqueria is definitely the place to eat! Doce Taqueria is conveniently located at 2202 East Carson Street (adjacent to its sister bar, Twelve on Carson) in the Southside. Since opening their doors earlier this year appropriately on May 5 (Cinco de Mayo), this small, extremely colorful, and tastefully decorated little taco shop has become an extremely popular place to eat! Reggae music playing in the background creates a truly festive atmosphere.

They offer 5 choices of tacos and a daily special, made to order right in front of you with only the freshest and finest ingredients all for only $3.00. You can mix and match, customize and have it your way or the Doce way! Chef Alex Balint is the creative mastermind behind these scrumptiously delicious tacos. The taste and food quality is absolutely top notch and simply the best! They offer both traditional Mexican style tacos and an American version along with a revolving vegan option, served with your choice of flour or corn tortilla. The quality of food you get is extremely reasonable priced at only $3.00 each. A side of black beans can be had for only $2.00 or nachos with your choice of meat for $5.00. Your tacos are served in a no frills disposable boat with a colorful paper liner. But, don’t let that fool you, these tacos need no fancy gimmicks to make your taste buds tingle.

Your meat choices are carnitas, a specialty pulled smoked pork (smoked and cooked to perfection daily) with crunchy Mexican slaw, farmer’s cheese (Mexican cheese) or the traditional American taco cheese blend, pico de gallo, carne molida, cilantro, lime and avocado; the marinated chicken offers the same toppings plus the addition of a spicy cream made with Cholula hot sauce; and the spicy beef adds sautéed peppers, onion and jalapeno. The Americano is billed as being “just like your Madre made them” with ground beef, shredded cheddar and lettuce, tomato and sour cream. Vegan and vegetarian options vary, but have included crispy potatoes and black beans. Past daily specials have featured chicken cheese jalapeno tacos, chipotle BBQ chicken. Jamaican jerk chicken, smoked lamb. You never know what might show up on the daily special menu with the creativity of Chef Alex, but we can definitely guarantee – you won’t be disappointed.

Doce Taqueria offers a large variety of throwback style glass bottles of Mexican sodas from their cooler for only $2.00. Or if you would prefer to have a Margarita (really fantastic margaritas, I might add) or your favorite Cerveza, you are more than welcome to take your tacos next door to Twelve, where you can eat, drink and unwind with your favorite alcoholic beverage.

Doce Taqueria is a collaboration of brothers, Chef Alex and Andy Jr. along with their dad Andy Balint, Sr. owner of The Crying Onion catering (based on the North Side) where their grandfather ran a neighborhood market. Andy Jr, operates the bar/nightclub Twelve next door. Chef Alex operates Doce Taqueria. These boys truly grew up in the food/service industry, know their stuff and excel at providing the best food, quality and service anywhere! They learned from the master, their dad.. Andy Balint, Sr. Great job dad!

Doce is generally staffed with only 1 or 2 people, however their staff is extremely friendly, professional and they make sure to greet each and every customer making you feel like family. Plus, they prepare and get your food order to you correctly and extremely quick. Seating is bar style with a southwest but modern feel. The multitudes of colorful themed decorations are all from local artists, which give Doce a warm and comfortable feel. If you haven’t tried Doce Taqueria, your missing the best tacos in the Burgh!

Doce is open: Tuesday through Thursday 10AM-12M, Friday and Saturday 10AM-3AM, Sunday 10AM – 12M and closed on Mondays.
