Even if you don’t hit it big or even consider yourself a gambler…….. The high-end cuisine at Andrew’s Steakhouse is no gamble. Excellent atmosphere, service and menu offerings, plus their exclusive six page wine list is absolutely outstanding…. Andrew’s Steakhouse is a sure bet! AND it’s not just steak…..they have raw bar selections, fabulous appetizers, soups, salads, modern entrees and seafood selections. Andrew’s takes great pride in providing the freshest vegetables and 100 percent hormone-free, antibiotic free Angus beef along with Elysian Fields lamb and local chicken.

We began our evening at a lovely window table in an elegant atmosphere that felt far, far away from the noisy casino floor. There is no dress code at Andrew’s (meaning that there’s no closet of jackets for men to “borrow” while dining) but the food definitely deserves the respect that you might feel wearing your best suit or an evening gown! We certainly felt fashionable and so did the couple wearing jeans behind us. I said elegant atmosphere, not “stuffy” traditional male driven steakhouse atmosphere. I did peruse the menu prior to our reservation and couldn’t wait to try the Steamed PEI Mussels ($10) with saffron, white wine & chorizo. I knew that everyone at our table didn’t quite care for mussels so I was quickly calculating that there would be plenty for me to get my fill. I’m positive that I’ll be back to have a glass of wine and a bowl of mussels at the bar. Next we sampled the Beef Tartare ($10) which is raw filet (don’t freak out!) and was super scrumptious. Again I found myself not wanting to share! The Beef Tartare brought back so many memories of being raised eating raw ground meat – something that is unheard of in most households & something that you really wouldn’t want to do today. There was no evidence of tartare on that plate, that’s how delicious this was and I stress my point that you absolutely have to try this, it’s simply melt in your mouth delicious. The Seared Diver Scallops ($14) were so succulent and savory it prompted one guest to ask if scallops always taste this way. “Not really”, I replied but what a treat these scallops were- so big, so fresh and seared to perfection, sauced with vanilla-chardonnay syrup. The appetizer choices are abundant, so take some friends and you can try several! Seafood by the piece from the raw bar would be a nice accompaniment for a lighter meal- Split King Crab Legs or Maine Lobster, Oysters or Poached Shrimp as well as Traditional Shrimp Cocktail or Oysters on the Half Shell are all tempting.

Okay I’m getting anxious to tell you about the Steak! I hope I’ve teased your taste buds enough with Andrew’s seafood definitely the finest in the city! Now, onto the steaks…. The grand daddy of all the steaks presented by Andrew’s is the Porterhouse for 2 ($68) and worth every penny! Its 40 ounces of slow cooked heaven! It was so beautiful and so big. If you love steak and like sharing- this is the winner. I really felt like a high-roller eating this colossal choice and it’s kind of romantic too! Sides are ala carte and the choices are plentiful- you can have everything from French fries to asparagus to a colossal baked sweet potato to creamed spinach to lobster macaroni & cheese (which BTW was “to die for”!). But don’t worry if you can’t choose just one- Andrew’s offers a Trio of Sides ($10). These accompaniments are definitely enough to share! Let your server pair your meal with a wonderful wine served by the glass or by the bottle. The selections are outstanding. All of the best steaks are offered- Certified Black Angus Filet (8 oz. $28 & 12 oz. $38), Prime Dry Aged New York Strip (14 oz. $38) and a 20 oz. Bone-In Rib Eye ($36). I’ve never seen such beautiful meat! Upgrades, accompaniments and sauces are also offered – it’s as if anything you could ever want with a steak can be yours- “Oscar Style” with King Crab, Asparagus and Béarnaise Sauce ($15) would be my ultimate steak upgrade! Or you can try an accompaniment of a Jumbo Lump Crab Cake ($25) or a Lobster Tail ($25). The superb choices seem endless. Next time I hit the slots I won’t feel one bit bad about spending my winnings right back at the casino…….right back at that window table! Even as I write this column, I’m contemplating making a reservation……I can skip the slots!

If you’re not in the mood for steak or seafood, Andrew’s menu also tempts you with a 12 oz. Burger ($18) which, well, I’ll leave it up to you to do the research…….sounds like THE best burger in the burg. There’s also Park Farms Chicken and Elysian Fields Lamb Shank and a Serrano Ham Wrapped Pork Tenderloin, a meal fit for a king and certainly something to suit every palate. Andrew’s is fine dining at it finest. Savory and sumptuous dishes with a unique flair.

Andrew’s Steakhouse has an in-house pastry chef who creates not only beautiful but edible works of art. You can tell that this is a dream job and the desserts are definitely dreamy! I’ve run out of room to go into detail but take your time, save room, you will definitely enjoy! You won’t want to miss out on the rolling coffee cart a perfect ending to any meal that will surely delight your senses, order a flaming coffee, its not only delicious, but a spectacular presentation…one not to be missed!

Andrew’s is located across the casino floor toward the river, and is open Sundays Wednesdays & Thursdays from 5 pm til 9:30 pm and Fridays & Saturdays 5 pm till 11 pm. Reservations are suggested. For larger parties they even have a private dining room or for a glass of wine have a seat at the bar.

The Rivers Casino really does it right with the best steakhouse in the city!
