“Iron Man” poised to blast box office into summer

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hollywood studios are counting on actor Robert Downey Jr. and his big-screen incarnation as “Iron Man” to blast them out of a box office slump as the lucrative summer movie season opens this weekend.

The latest Marvel comics adventure is expected to gross $60 million to $80 million or more during its initial Friday-through-Sunday run in North American theaters, experts said, buoyed by heavy promotion and largely favorable reviews. click here for feature

“Idol” slide continues after judge mix-up

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A night after Tuesday’s much-discussed on-air blunder by “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul, the results show of the talent show lost 1.2 million viewers from the previous week.

With “Idol” (22.1 million viewers vs. 23.3 million) already having dropped in nearly every episode in recent weeks, however, that means the reality show has once again hit a five-year low. A year ago, the show averaged 29 million viewers. click here for full story

“Bourne” grosses $70 million to top box office

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne is back, and this time he clobbered Homer Simpson.

“The Bourne Ultimatum,” the third movie in the espionage action series starring Matt Damon as a one-time CIA hit man searching for his past, grossed $70.2 million its opening weekend to rank as North America’s top film at the box office, according to studio estimates on Sunday.click here for full feature
